2024 MARVIN RIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL CLINIC

The Marvin Ridge High School Baseball Coaching staff is conducting a baseball clinic, in order to help prepare potential players in grades 6-8 for the upcoming Middle School Baseball tryouts. 

The staff at the high school not only wants to prepare players for tryouts, but to give instruction and feedback to players that should help take their game to the next level. 

This clinic is not mandatory and will not have an impact on who makes the Middle School Baseball teams. 

All proceeds from the Middle School Baseball Clinic will go to the MRHS Baseball Program Funds to help cover any items not covered in the athletic budget.

On behalf of all the coaches, I want to thank all of the players/parents for a great baseball season!  

Players, thank you for your dedication to the program.  Your hard work and effort was outstanding!  We wish our 8th graders the best of luck going into high school.  I look forward to seeing our 6th and 7th graders next season.

We, as a staff,  have decided not to enter the tournament this weekend because after talking to the tournament director, we did not feel like it would be worth it.  There are too may ifs.  The weather is most likely going to push it into a one-day tournament, if at all.  The director had not gotten a bunch of commitments from other teams yet.  The venue was not yet determined.  So, based on all of that information, we decided not to enter the tournament.  A one-day tournament can turn into long lapses between games and possibly different fields.  We did not feel like that would be worth it for the players/parents driving all over the place.  Here is the change in schedule:

Thursday, April 13 -  practice for those in town, 1130 am - 130 pm.  If we have enough players, we are going to divide teams up and do a scrimmage.

Friday, April 14 -  looks like a strong possibility of rain.  I will email/text players in the morning or Thursday night if we have the possibility of getting something in.

Saturday, April 15 -  TBA.  If the field is playable after the rain, we will divide into 2 teams and play a scrimmage.  I will email/text Saturday morning after we check the field.  It will depend on the amount of rain Friday.  

Sunday, April 16 -  looks like rain again.  If possible, we will do a scrimmage.  This is OPTIONAL for those who want to participate.  Again, it depends on the weather and field conditions.

Parents,

With the forecasted weather Friday and Friday night, I am going to assume there is a good possibility the games will be rained out Saturday.  Of course, it is a wait and see situation.  Coach Jerman and I will make a call Friday night since JV - Orange has a 9 am game Saturday.  

If Saturday is a washout, please be aware all 3 teams will play Sunday. Varsity will practice Saturday 11 am to 1 pm in the gym if we are rained out.   If we get to Sunday, the plan would be for JV - Orange and JV - Blue to play home Sunday and Varsity go to Edna Love for a DH Sunday.  Edna Love traditionally does not drain well so if we have to adjust, JV - Orange would have to go to Parkwood Sunday for their game and we would host SV JV and SV Varsity here.  With church obligations, it would be impossible for us to host 4 games here since we have to start in the afternoon.   Parkwood MS normally drains well. I just wanted to keep you all in the loop.  I appreciate everyone's flexibility.

This situation is fluid and when I find out information, I will be in touch....

Sun Valley may not contact me until Monday.  If it cancelled, the Varsity will practice 430 pm to 630 pm in the gym area/parking lot most likely.  Please bring your gear to school for outside and inside just in case.  Thanks!  I will communicate asap.

Friday, Feb. 24 -   All 3 teams will stay after school.  All 3 teams will report to the gym at 415 pm and change into their full uniform for pictures.  Pictures will begin at 445 pm on the field.  The coaches will meet the players in the gym at 430 pm.  After pictures are completed, all 3 teams will practice until 7 pm.  Parents, thanks for your cooperation with this.  I know it is a quick turnaround because the boys just got their uniforms today.  Please make sure you have orange socks, white pants, orange belt, jersey, and orange hat.  Players may need a bat for individual pictures.  

Saturday, February 25 -  Varsity practice 10 am to 12 pm.  JV- Orange practice 11 am to 1 pm.   JV - Blue practice 12 pm to 2 pm.  With the forecast, be prepared to practice in the gym.  But, bring gear for outside just in case.

Saturday, February 25 -  The picture schedule could not be changed so they will start at 1120 am.   All 3 teams need to be there at 1120 AM for pictures.  Varsity will go first.  Varsity players are welcome to stay at the field Saturday until warmups begin at 1245 pm for the scrimmage.  Varsity will not be wearing uniforms for the scrimmage.  They will wear their hat, a royal blue MR shirt, white baseball pants, orange belt and orange socks.  So, Varsity players have the option to leave and come back at 1245 pm or stay until 1245 pm at the field.  

JV - Blue and JV - Orange will practice immediately after their pictures from approximately 1145 am to 130 pm.  Please stay and support our Varsity Mavericks vs. Indian Land in the scrimmage at 2 pm.

Thank you all so much for attending the parent meeting!

As I mentioned at the meeting, we will be participating in a spring break tournament Sat., April 15 and Sun., April 16.  I plan on having practice Wed., April 12, Thurs., April 13 and Friday, April 14.

Saturday, February 25 -   Varsity scrimmage vs. Indian Land 2 pm at MRMS.  Please be there by 1245 pm.  JV - Blue and JV - Orange practice from 1045 AM to 1245 PM.   Pictures are scheduled on Sat. from 11 20 am to 12 pm.  I am trying to see if I can get them moved.  Please stay tuned.

Monday, February 13 -  Varsity 430 pm - 630 pm, JV - Blue and JV - Orange 430 pm to 6 pm.  Please be prepared to go out to the field or stay in the gym depending on field conditions.  In the gym, you can wear shorts.  

Tuesday, February 14 -   Varsity off.  JV - Blue and JV - Orange 630 pm to 830 pm.

Wednesday, February 15 - Varsity  430 pm to 630 pm. JV - Blue and  JV - Orange are off.

Thursday, February 16 -   All three teams and parents have the fundraiser at 5 pm in the cafeteria.  Parents, please arrive as soon as you can.  Traffic is heavy after school.  Right after the fundraiser,  Coach Pacella will hold the parent meeting.  All 3 teams will practice from 530 pm to 730 pm.  

Friday, February 17 -  All three teams are off.  

Saturday, February 18 -  All 3 teams will practice from 4 pm to 6 pm on the HS baseball field. 

Sunday, February 19 -  Varsity practice from 3 pm to 5 pm.  JV - Blue and JV - Orange are off.  

Parents, please understand that we do practice on weekends because 4 teams practice on the middle school field.  Saturday, the practice is late because the middle school field is being used and the HS baseball team has a scrimmage.  

If there is ever a time, you have a family event scheduled on a weekend and your son cannot make a practice, we encourage your son to communicate to your coaches or you can shoot me an email.  We fully understand those situations.  Thanks!

Due to the threat of rain later in the week, I am going to adjust the middle school baseball tryouts as follows:

JV Baseball Tryouts:  6th and 7th graders

Monday, February 6:  430 pm - 730 pm - MRMS Field

Tuesday, February 7:  430 pm - 730 pm - MRMS FIeld

There will not be a first cut.  All cuts will be made Saturday, February 11.

Varsity Baseball Tryouts:  8th graders and some possible 7th graders

Wednesday, February 8:  430 pm - 730 pm - MRMS Field

Thursday, February 9:  430 pm - 730 pm - MRMS Field

All cuts will be made Saturday, February 11.

Monday - Wednesday looks clear weather wise.  Please check the website if Thursday needs to be adjusted.  I will update Wednesday night if I need to move Thursday's tryout.

Tuesday, January 24:  4:30 pm – 6:30 pm – MRMS Field ( change when released, meet coaches in the gym)

Friday, January 27:  12 pm - 2 pm - MRMS Field

Saturday, January 28:  12 pm – 2pm – MRMS Field

Please make sure your parents do not pull down the gravel road when you get dropped off and picked up.   Players should bring all of their gear, including catchers gear.

There is still openings for the 430 pm time slot for the barn on Sunday, Jan. 22.  There will also be workouts at the barn on Sunday, Jan. 29.

There will be an outdoor baseball workout for all players interested in middle school baseball on Monday, January 16 from 12 pm to 2pm.   Students are out of school because of the holiday.  The forecast is looking like rain on and off for the rest of the week.  I am going to wait and see how it looks at the end of the weekend before I post for other days next week.

Please do not forget that early registration closes on Friday, January 20 at midnight.  After that date, there is a $200 fee.

Tryout information for JV

The tryouts for the JV Baseball teams (Blue and Orange) will be Monday, February 6, Tuesday, February 7, and Wednesday, February 8.  The tryouts will be 430 pm to 630 pm each day.  This tryout is for 6th and 7th graders only.  The JV Blue and Orange rosters will be posted on Saturday, February 11 later in the afternoon at some point.

There will be a cut on Tuesday, February 7.  It will be posted at some point after the Tuesday, February 7th tryout.  The numbers listed are the boys that need to return.  

ALL TRYOUTS ARE CLOSED!

Your son will need a White T-shirt for tryouts.   The first day he attends tryouts a number will be put on the back in permanent black magic marker.  So, please have it be an old t-shirt.  Make sure it is on the outside if he is wearing other clothing underneath.  

For each of the tryouts, please have your son bring his gear to school and store it outside of the gym doors in the morning.  The boys will be dismissed at 4 pm and need to go directly to get their gear and change in the gym locker room.  The coaches will escort the players down to the field from there after that.  Please be mindful at 630 pm, there will be a lot of traffic when you pick up your son.  Please do not pull down the gravel road to pick up your son.  Please park in the parking lot and wait for your son to come up at 630 pm after the tryout.  Thank you for your cooperation with this!

Coach Pacella may or may not invite individual players to tryout out for the Varsity baseball team.  He will let your son know if he gets invited to attend the Varsity tryouts which will be Thursday, Feb. 9, Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11.

Please dress appropriately for the weather.  

Please bring snacks and water.
