FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Marvin Ridge Middle School swim team is a very competitive sport. In the history of the school, the team has never lost. 

TRYOUTS: Students intending to participate on the MRMS Swim Team should already have a basic knowledge and ability to swim all 4 strokes. Tryouts will be used to help determine appropriate abilities and maintain a team size that is constructive for those participating. The tryout date is yet to be set.

EQUIPMENT: Swimmers will be issued a MRMS swim cap if they make the team. Team suits will be offered through our vendor site, though they are not required. 

PRACTICES: Practices are held once one night per week and are expected to take place at the SwimMAC facility located at Charlotte Latin School off Providence Road. Practice time is typically 9-10pm. 

SEASON LENGTH: Practices will begin in early November and go through mid-January. We expect 4-6 meets with the last being in mid-January. Meet specifics are yet to be finalized.

Tryout Exemption: If you would like to be exempt from tryouts, please go to http://www.usaswimming.org/times/individual-times-search and send an export of your top times only to me at alenna.clements@gmail.com. We will not accept times that are not from the USA Swimming database. If you are new to the team and wish to participate in tryouts anyway, we would appreciate the opportunity to meet you!

Practice Exemption: If you are registered as a USA Swimming member and actively training with your club team during the MRMS season, you are exempt from MRMS practices. While you are always welcome, we understand the need for proper balance of school, rest and training. Please let us know your team and practice schedule.

As a reminder, all athletes (including returning fall athletes) are required to upload two documents as part of the registration process.

• The Gfeller-Waller Concussion Statement Form, which must be signed and dated by you and your student-athlete
• The NCHSAA Pre-participation Physical Examination form, which must be signed and dated by a Licensed Medical Provider based upon a physical exam occurring on or after September 14, 2021

• Registration opens on 9/12/22
• Early registration closes on 10/7/22
• A late registration fee of $200 will be assessed beginning on 10/8/22
• Late registration closes on 10/14/22
• Try-out week begins on 10/24/22
• Teams will be posted by 10/30/22
• Spirit wear store link sent out by 10/30/22
• Sports fees will be assessed within a week of teams being rostered. LOOK FOR DUE DATE IN EMAIL!
