2021 Spring Tennis Tryouts

4/19: 5:00-7:30p (Marvin Ridge courts)

4/20: 4:45-6:00p (Firethorne Country Club - Clubhouse courts)

4/21: 5:00-7:00p (Marvin Ridge courts)

*Bring a labeled water bottle and a snack if needed - community water cooler will not be provided
*Wear your mask when not on the courts and continue to remain 6 ft. apart to prevent any whole-team quarantine situations (we will talk more about this at the beginning of tryouts).
*DO NOT ATTEND TRYOUTS (practices, matches, etc.) if you have any symptoms whatsoever.
*If you traveled out of the country over spring break, make sure you have adhered to the CDC Guidelines for testing/quarantining.

I would like to congratulate a great group of young ladies on 3.5 days of very tough tennis tryouts!!  Between the rain delays and the number of girls this year made for a very unique tryout phase to say the least.  I will say it once again that most (if not all) of the girls would make 99% of the middle school teams in the state and many would be in the top 6 of each team.  Please keep playing!!  We have girls making the team this year who did not make it in previous years!!  Be happy to point anyone interested to tennis programs around town and jr. usta events!!

2 matches finished today before the rain.   I do not want to move into Friday as I have heard there are many commitments already. 

I will be able to finish all matches tomorrow (Thursday) but we will need to go from 4-8pm.  As of now, the weather looks like it may cooperate for Thursday. 

Thanks again for your understanding - if all goes as planned, we will have final cuts Thursday night after all matches conclude.

Thanks everyone again for your understanding with the weather!!  The good news is that we were able to get in 62 matches today.

If you do not see your number, remember what I told each of you earlier today.  There are three girls on the high school team and two in the top 6 that were cut from our middle school team many years ago.  Hard work from them has paid off.  Not seeing your number should not discourage you from continuing to play!!

Thanks everyone for your patience this evening with the one hour delay.  The girls did learn that with some sun and no rain that hard courts can completely dry in less than one hour!!

Even with the delay we were able to get in 49 matches.  Tomorrow will be same format with a goal of 3 matches per student athlete.

I will remind the girls at tryouts but initial cuts will happen tomorrow night (Tuesday).  Everyone has been assigned a number.  I will post the numbers on this team page tomorrow evening for girls who I would like to come back for the Wednesday session.

UPDATE 7/27/19: Email was sent to all parents on 7/27 describing tryouts and upcoming season.  If you did not receive, call or send me a text (704-488-0769) and I can forward to you!!

UPDATE: Monday, August 12th between 4-7pm @ Marvin Ridge tennis courts will be our first day of tryouts for the fall season!!  We will go two full days on the 12th & 13th from 4-7pm.   On the evening of 13th, we will trim the list down from these first two days based on the note that I sent out to parents describing the tryout format.  14th and 15th (still at 4 pm) will be needed to finish final analysis for this fall season!!

Like prior years, girls must be present during the entire tryout period to be considered for the team.

Middle school tennis is played with normal yellow balls (not green dot).

Registration opens on June 1st and will close July 13th; late registration is permitted through July 19th with an associated $200 late fee. 

Reminder:  Registration is a two step process - you must complete both!! (hint: you will need to have completed the 2 page physical before starting the registration process and have it downloaded to your computer; as well as your child's student ID number available.  Physicals are valid for 395 days from signature date)
